Fabulous New Orleans Fashion Week

What a week.  This year I spent the whole week at New Orleans Fashion Week, and I had an incredible time hosting event visitors, and interviewing the fantastic array of designers attending #NOFW7.

Tracee Dundas, the event founder, has built NOFW in just seven years to a regional showcase of incredible talent that has launched the careers of both models and designers.

Her commitment to fashion and artistic excellence, her dedication to the local and regional artists, and her knowledge and love of all things fashion, is demonstrated in the carefully curated events and powerful runway nights.

Each night there was a special event ranging from parties, to retail therapy to Q&A’s with recognized designers like Pedram of Pedram Couture.  And then, the week finished with runway shows Wednesday through Friday, with each night celebrating their successes at a local after party.  The Design Competition on Wednesday was packed with talent.  11 designers competed, and Mimi Holaday walked away the winner.

This lucky girl got to wear some really great fashions this week ranging from comfortable wear from Derriere Wear, to a couture pantsuit by House of Heim, to three uniquely divine gowns by one of my favorites, Romey Roe.  I also got to showcase some really lovely pieces of jewelry by Elida Designs and Kazaru.

There was so much talent in one place, it was almost overwhelming, but one of the most unique designers I connected with this week was Clinton Whitney Downing.  An architect and interior designer, Downing has created a line of runway couture made from re-purposed items like coffee filters, rubber bands, bubble wrap, straws and much more!

As an added benefit, I was able to spend time with Elida of Elida Designs who revealed a custom piece designed in honor of Louisiana flood victims and volunteers that will be auctioned with proceeds benefiting the recovery.  And, she also donated a % of all sales during NOFW to Launch Louisiana.

Make your plans now for #NOFW8 next March in New Orleans, and follow #NOFW happenings on their site at www.neworleansfashionweek.com.  This is one fashionable event you don’t want to miss.

A fun recap we threw together to give you a taste of #NOFW7.
